In our interactions with our youngest members, we strive to live out the baptismal covenant and teach our children the tenants of the Christian faith. All 300,000 photographs in The Frith Collection have been scanned, but as the photos were taken over a 110 year period on a wide range of glass & film negatives, using different photographic processes, every image has to be checked and optimised, before we make a print for a customer. Our ministry to families embodies all aspects of our mission statement: to worship God joyfully, care deeply and act boldly as followers of Christ. We also offer nursery care for parents involved in other ministries or who have children not in the age groups for formation. Several adults from the community serve as teachers and youth leaders. Our classrooms are on the second floor and they are bright and cheery.

Our curricula are Godly Play, Living the Good News and J2A. We have a dynamic Sunday School program that meets at 10 AM every Sunday. Children and youth serve in a variety of worship ministries: ushers, readers, choir members, acolytes and bell ringers. We also encourage families with young and wiggly children to join us at the 9:15am Child Centered Eucharist in the Undercroft where there is a soft carpet, interactive sermon and music and also is kept brief to 40 mins for those of us who have got a little extra wiggle in our spirit! Some families do prefer the quieter 8am service. Most families attend the 11am Eucharist where we provide an age-appropriate children’s sermon and activity in the music room each Sunday. It is staffed by our child care providers and is located very near the sanctuary across from the main office. If you prefer, childcare is available, free of charge, for children ages 4 and under from 8:45 AM until 12 PM. There is a “soft space” near the entrance of the Cathedral which is well equipped with toys and rocking chairs. If you need to get up and move around because your child is restless please feel free to do so, but please come back. Children learn about worship by copying you. Sing the hymns, pray and voice the responses. Feel free to quietly explain the parts of the service. We find it is best to sit toward the front where it is easier to see and hear. We know the Cathedral is a beautiful and majestic place but we love the energy and vitality of our youngest members. God put the wiggle in children, don’t feel you have to suppress it in God’s house. We encourage parents of young children to relax. The presence of children is a gift to the Church. The Cathedral strives to be a family-friendly place.
